Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 3, 2026

Smart Budget ("the app") is a personal budgeting app for Android. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. In short: your financial data stays on your phone. The only things that leave it on their own are anonymous usage statistics and crash reports (which you can turn off) and what Google needs to show ads.

Data stored on your device

Everything you enter (accounts, transactions, categories, budgets, recurring items, cheques, scenarios and settings) is stored only in the app's private storage on your device. The app has no server of its own, and none of this data is included in usage statistics, crash reports or ad requests. Android Auto Backup and device-to-device transfer are turned off for this data, so it is never copied anywhere unless you use the Google Drive backup described below.

Google Sign-In

If you choose to sign in with Google, the app receives your Google account's email address, name and profile picture (scopes openid, email, profile). They are only used to show which account is connected in the app's settings. They are not sent to any server other than Google's and are not shared with anyone. Signing out removes them from the app and keeps all your local data.

Google Drive backup

If you turn on Drive backup, the app asks for the drive.appdata permission. This lets it create, read and delete only its own backup file (smartbudget-backup.json) in a hidden app-specific folder of your Google Drive. The app cannot see, read or change any other file in your Drive.

Use of Google user data

Smart Budget's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is used only to provide the sign-in and backup features described above. It is not sold, not used for advertising, not shared with third parties, and not read by humans.

Usage statistics and crash reports

To find crashes and see which features are used, the app uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. They receive the names of the screens you open, the kind of action you take (for example "transaction added" or "backup made", never its content), crash details, the app version, and general device information such as model, Android version, language and approximate country. They never receive amounts, names, notes, categories, account details or your Google account. The advertising ID is not collected by Analytics.

Ads

The app shows banner ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use the advertising ID and device information to serve and measure ads. In the EEA and the UK, you are asked for consent first and can change your choice later. See how Google uses data in ads.

Notifications

The app can show local notifications, such as budget alerts and reminders. They are created on your device and nothing is sent to a server.

Deleting your data

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
